If Clause

 IF CLAUSE TYPE 2

My first official blog after coming back to Dwiwarna for offline school!!

Currently doing this blog in Geography class (I'm on free time don't worry sir), wanted to pass time by writing but just realized that my notes are in my book and not typed neatly in my laptop anymore. One of the few adjustments I have to make when coming back to Dwiwarna. So I think I'm just going to tell you guys about the day we first learned about If Clause.

It was a fine Thursday, 30th September 7:30 to be exact. CP was our first period of the day, so after tadarus i got up and went to 12 IPA 3. I entered the class and the first thing that caught my eye was that tall tripod in front of the board. So turns out CP is one of the few classes that has to do double-track, which is essentially teaching offline and online both at the same time (semangat ya sir). I went to my seat and unpacked a few things before going up front to see what the camera tripod looks like, it made me realize the extra effort teachers have to do in this complicated situation (so props to all teachers out there!). After a few technical errors, Mr. Ach opened the class and said a few greetings, next he went straight to the PowerPoint.

Turns out we will be learning about the If Clause type 2 for the following week. The if clause itself are used to express that the action in the main clause (without If) can only take place if a certain condition (in the clause with If) is fulfilled. Meanwhile If clause type 2 refers to an unlikely or hypothetical condition and its probable result. I will get into the details later once I arrive at aspi but if clause or conditional sentences essentially explains about specific conditions, it can be hypothetical or impossible or possible.

The whole 3 periods were used up by Mr. Ach explaining the PowerPoint and a few questions asked by confusing students (me included).

The next Friday, we had CP again and this time Mr. Ach went straight to assigning stuff. First we did the quizziz which had about 10 questions, it was all if clause-related obviously. And then Mr. Ach had to do his homeroom teacher duties, so he assigned us a task. It was making a dialogue! a group consisting of 2 people have to make a conversation with at least 1 if clause and inversed if clause sentences. I got paired up with Eca and we went straight to work. Then Mr. Ach came back and informed us that we will be recording said conversation on video next Thursday.

IF CLAUSE TYPE 2 NOTES

- imaginative at the present time

- reversed conditions

- harus pake "were" karena it shows somwthing impossible, kalo "was" berarti it already happened

formula : if + subject + v2 / were + subject + would/could/had to + verb

kalau inversed, "if" ganti ke "should" terus ada "to be" (tapi ga semua)

ex : If Ammar told me the truth, I wouldn't be this mad

becomes

Should Ammar tell me the truth, I wouldn't be this mad

- kalo meaning if clause jangan pake past tense, always present time, didnt ganti ke doesnt

he didnt work out more so he's not fit now SALAH

he isnt fit now bcs hes too lazy to workout BENER

- kalo sentence if clause nya, baru pake past tense, was ganti ke were

- type 2 gaada yang pake had sama sekali

- type 2 gapake "have" juga, "have" punya type 3

jadi misal would have buy / would have bought SALAH

langsung aja would buy

- kl sentence nya ada "could be" "could go" itu if clause type 2

eca = hi nasywaa

nasywaa = hii eca, whats up?

eca = can i ask you something?

nasywaa = shoot

eca = so this guy asked me for my number yesteday, he said he is a friend of yours

nasywaa = what omg whats his name?

eca = nabil

nasywaa = eca...if i were you id totally give him my number

eca = what do you mean?

nasywaa = i met nabil a couple years back when we went to the same middle school, he is 100% my type. so what i mean by that is you should definetely give him your number, but thats just my advice because i think hes nice, its all up to you

eca = alright nasywaa thank youu for that

nasywaa = yeaa eca no problem

eca = oh i have another thing i wanted to ask you, are you still mad at jasmine? i met her on my way here and she told me to ask you that

nasywaa = should she be on time and not cancel plans the hour before, i wouldnt be this mad

eca = alright, im gonna tell her you said that ya

nasywaa = okay eca

eca = byee

nasywaa = byee

IF CLAUSE TYPE 3

Anyway...here we are again back with another If Clause, this time its the third type. The last 2 meetings of cross program have been occupied by learning about this subject, or is it 1? I don't know for sure to be honest. It is a fine Wednesday and I'm on my bed thinking about English Blog after napping for like 2 hours, don't know why I couldn't stop thinking about it even though Mr. Ach hasn't even assigned us to do the blog butt ya know the earlier the better.

Last Thursday was like usual, although there was an extra addition to the class which is Bu Hajah Retno supervising the class, didn't make that big of a difference though. Mr. Ach introduced us to the topic by making us watch a couple of If clause type 3 conversation videos done by the past seniors, their lack of emotions while carrying out the conversation made the video 10x funnier. After that Mr. Ach went straight to the powerpoint and explained some things to both the PTM class and the PJJ class which was a bit confusing at first since there were a couple technical difficulties (i.e. the screen being shared couldn't be seen by respective classes and the PJJ people not being able to hear the PTM people while taking turns reading the dialogue). Personally for me the lesson didn't seem too hard as we were already introduced by the If Clause type 2 last time, so I had background knowledge already. Here is a couple of notes that I made in class ;

- imaginative in the past time / regret

- has to be in the past form (both the sentence and the meaning)

- sentence yang ada "if" selalu pake "had"

- sentence yang gaada pake "if", pake modal verb (should, could, would) terus pake "have" and or "been"

formula : If + S1 + had + V3 / been + S2 + would + have + V3 / been

- V3 selalu pake "had" awalnya

- kalo inversed, pake "had" instead of "should"

- sentence yg ada "if", selalu pake "had"

sentence yang gaada"if", pake modal verb (should, could, would) terus pake "have" / "been"

- "could have been" "could have gone" itu if clause type 3

here is a dialogue that my friends and I made for the If Clause type 3!!

Nasywaa = Sasha, come here now!!

Sasha = What's wrong?

Nasywaa = Was the milk you gave me yesterday, stale?

Sasha = I don't think so...but I don't know for sure

Nasywaa = Well if I hadn't drunk your musty milk I wouldn't have thrown up this morning!!

Sasha = Hah I don't understand, what do you mean by that?

Nasywaa = Remember that milk you gave me yesterday? I drank it and it turned out to be stale, so I was throwing up all morning!!

Sasha = So what do you want me to do? say sorry?

Nasywaa = Oh my god you're so annoying Sasha

Jasmine = Guys guys come on calm down, what are you guys arguing about?

Sasha = Had Nasywaa brought her own beverage I wouldn't have given her my milk!!

Jasmine = Huh I don't get it

Sasha = Nasywaa didn't bring her own milk yesterday so I gave her mine, but it turned out to be stale so now she's mad at me for giving her my milk

Jasmine = You both are too sensitive! It's not a big deal!!

Nasywaa = Oh my god you both are the same, I'm just going to leave now

*slams the door*

IF CLAUE TYPE 0

Back again with this incessant hell of a material (sorry for cursing sir). If clause type 2 and 3 have been, something...but I can safely say type 0 is a little more on the softer side. Softer doesn't necessarily mean easier as the reoccurring confusing feeling I have for all if clauses is still the same. When the type 2 and 3 are taught in the English cross program, this type 0 is a compulsory English material. First learned this on a fine Wednesday, I remember being told to form groups and watch the videos made by our seniors. I got paired up with Cece and Kevin and we watched the video respectively, I remember the video consists of kak Safina, kak Jedda and kak Advent. They were talking about a future holiday plan to go to Maldives, and we had to look for phrases we think are part of the If Clause type 0. As usual, after watching the video, Mr. Ach explained the PowerPoint which made me go "ohhh" inaudibly inside my head. Felt like I was matching puzzle pieces as several conversations the seniors had in the video aligned with the materials being presented in the PowerPoint. Because I was pretty confused  hearing them talk about Maldives and then going straight to superstitions. Anyway, I found out that If Clause type 0 had lots of kinds, including fact, preference, rule, superstition, and habit. Said it was on the softer side because it has lots of categories that I can group them into, the types were also day to day phrases that we all collectively understand. On the other hand, this If Clause type 0 doesn't really have that If Clause "quality" the type 2 and 3 have, making it hard for me to determine whether that is actually an actual If Clause or not. Example, "when I stir fry vegetables i prefer olive oil" LIKEE sir how am I supposed to know that's an If Clause.

Following the internal confusion, we were told to make a conversation that had to include all types of If Clause type 0 and we focused it on a culinary title. Here is the conversationn

nasywaa = heyyy what are you guys up to
cece = oh we are making apple pie
kevin = yeaa, oh now that youre here can you pass me the nutmeg
nasywaa = of course, you know? when you consume nutmeg for at least 10 grams, you can hallucinate because of a natural compund in nutmeg called myristicin
kevin = thats so interesting, but scary at the same time
cece = then if you dont want to hallucinate dont add more than a teaspoon to this pie kevin
nasywaa = yeaa, here let me help you kevin
kevin = what are you doing nasywaa
nasywaa = oh when i sprinkle someting, i prefer to have it to my hand first so i can control the amount exactly
kevin = ahh i see
cece = kevin can you please take out the milk from the fridge
kevin = what for?
nasywaa = oh cece likes to have milk when she eats her pie
cece = yess, although im already thristy so im just going to drink the milk now
*cece takes the milk and drinks it*
kevin = nasywaa now that the pie is already in the oven can you please help me clean up
nasywaa = okay
*nasywaa sweeps the floor*
cece = nasywaa, next time sweep cleaner, if not, you'll get a messy husband
nasywaa = ugh fine cece
cece = yeah, my grandmother said that
kevin = alright alright settle down, thankyou nasywaa for helping
nasywaa = your welcome, im gonna go now okay, ill be back when the pie is done
cece = okay nasywaa, goodbye!!
